CORRESPONDENCE 1
FROM The Baldock Society
TO NHDC Planning Department
DATE SENT/RECEIVED 11 February 2008

DETAIL

We discussed the above application at our recent committee meeting and the members have asked me to convey the following points to your committee:

1. We are very concerned about the visual aspect of siting this unit on the frontage of the site, it will dominate the area and detract from the views of the main building.

2. We are embarking on several millions of pounds of expenditure on enhancing the town, this will be at the "arrival" into the town centre and will change the street scene to a detrimental effect.

3. There must be questions over the access to the unit for both recycling and emptying the TOMRA unit. We can see the whole site entrance being blocked by traffic backing up from the unit, much as the existing unit causes issues for the industrial area and rear car park at present.

4. The most logical place to site this unit is in the rear car park, where there is plenty of space, the access is good and the visual aspect is zero.

5. There was also concern over safety. The proposed location is a very busy access point for both vehicles and pedestrians and this will add to the dangers.

6. Unfortunately, we cannot think of any positive benefit of siting this unit where proposed and would urge your committee to give very careful consideration to this proposal. The car wash cabin is an example of how a unit can change the visual aspect of the frontage to Tesco, this will only degrade it further.

Thank you for considering our views on this matter.

Many thanks,

Chairman
Baldock Society
