The Baldock Society: Events

Events

The Baldock Society holds a general meeting for members at 8pm on the third Thursday of each month (except December) at Baldock Community Centre, Simpson Drive, Baldock SG7 6DH.

Meetings offer an update on Baldock Society Committee activity during the previous month and offer members the opportunity to discuss and feed back on issues affecting the town. Meetings then continue to a talk on one of a variety of subjects. This year's talks are detailed below.

Entry is free to Baldock Society members and costs £1 for visitors (which can be put against your membership if you join on the night). Refreshments are included and there is a raffle.

2008 Meetings

17 January 2008		Annual General Meeting 'official' AGM business will be followed by a buffet, wine, quizzes and a raffle. Please note this is a ticket only event. Members can obtain their free ticket by completing the request slip on page four of the Society's December 2007 newsletter, which is available online. Please request your ticket by Monday 14 January at the latest. Non members may obtain tickets at the price of £2.00.

21 February 2008		The History of Samplers by Vivian Crellin

20 March 2008		Essex Air Ambulance by John Matthews NOTE: This meeting will be held at the Old White Horse pub on Whitehorse Street, and not the usual venue of Baldock Community Centre. 17 April 2008		Postcards by Chris Gomm Due to unforeseen circumstances, our planned April speaker, Sherry Martin, had no option other than to withdraw. Sherry sends her sincere apologies to us and we thank her for this.

15 May 2008		1953 Coronation Celebrations in Baldock Please note this is a ticket only event. Members can obtain their free ticket by completing the request slip on page four of the Society's December 2007 newsletter, which is available online. This is the traditional Baldock Festival fortnight talk, and members are asked to request their ticket as early as possible, as space in the hall is limited. Non members should obtain a ticket from Baldock Community Centre - see the Baldock Festival website for information, available here.

21 August 2008		Members' Meeting (alteration to original schedule) This meeting was originally to be held as "An evening with Baldock's Councillors". We regret that the Councillors have had to withdraw due to their presence being required at a Council meeting to discuss three very important planning applications for Baldock. A proposed Adult Gaming Centre, the redevelopment of Burleigh House in Letchworth Road and the redevelopment of the Beech Ridge Lodge site are all on the agenda. The Baldock Society has submitted comments on the first two applications (see: Planning). The meeting will instead go ahead as a "Members' Evening", where the Committee will update members on its activities, demonstrate the Society's website as a means of finding out what the Society does, and generally discuss members' issues and concerns regarding Baldock. Both the Councillors and The Baldock Society committee apologise for the alteration and hope members will enjoy the Members' evening instead.

20 December 2008		No meeting

The 2008 AGM will be held in January 2009. This allows us the time to finish the year's accounts and present the forthcoming year's agenda to you all.
